The Robert Mayne Lecture commemorates the contribution of the Mayne family to the hospitals which eventually became St. James’s Hospital and The Adelaide & Meath Hospital Dublin, Incorporating the National Children’s Hospital. Robert Mayne (1811 – 1864) devoted his life to the South Dublin Union (subsequently St. James’s Hospital) and made several original observations in chest medicine.
The Robert Mayne Lecture alternates between St. James’s Hospital and the National Children’s Hospital and has attracted many distinguished speakers. It is representative of the spirit of co-operation between the two hospitals in furthering excellence in patient care, teaching and research. The Lecture was chaired by Dr. Michael Bennett.
